AE 542 Project: Student teams will propose and define a system of systems

System of Systems Objective Statement
The In-situ Resource Management System (IRMIS) will equip space missions with extraterrestrial resources in order to foster a permanent human presence in space starting in 2040.

My Role
Define the Resource Investigation System (RIS), a system of interest within the system of systems, IRMIS. RIS will conduct surface investigations on Mars in order to discover water ice and collect site characterization data to support water ice extraction and processing.

I completed a Level 1 system description including

  • Capabilities, attributes, and performance measures
  • Concept of operations
  • Functional and product structure hierarchies
  • System function analysis
  • System interface analysis
